Clifford Shearing

Clifford Shearing’s research activities are focused on understanding the new, and emerging, risk landscapes that are shaping 21 Century securities. The principal focus of his academic work has been on widening criminology’s boundaries, with an emphasis on ‘security governance’. His policy and applied work has been concerned with enhancing safety; his current research is focused on the implications of shifting harmscapes for the governance of security. Of particular concern are the environmental insecurities associated with the impacts of industrialisation on earth systems. A defining feature of his research is its regulatory focus, the interdisciplinary nature of his research teams and his collaborative approach.
